meet Meseret - once very shy, she gained a great deal of confidence through the training and now even shares her knowledge with other youth.
Meseret is 20 years old and lives in Debre Berhan, a small town in rural Ethiopia. Her town faces great economic challenges as many people are underemployed or work for their family businesses, not a salary.
When Meseret heard about Street Kids International’s Street Business training through her local youth organization she was very excited to attend. During the training she learned how to calculate start up costs and prepare a business plan.
Once very shy, Meseret gained a great deal of confidence through the training and now even shares her knowledge with other youth.
She has since followed her business plan to start a small animal fattening business. Meseret purchased four sheep with her savings for her initial start up, and budgeted to ensure she could feed them over a four month period. During the holiday season Meseret planned to sell two sheep, and calculated she would earn a profit.
Hopeful for the future, Meseret sees her business as a start and one day hopes to open a grocery store.
