Street Talk is an exciting new series of audio conferences discussing issues confronting youth around the world. The first such event, looks at the impact of HIV/AIDS on marginalized youth around the world.

Jeffrey Baikowitz, past chair of Street Kids International interviews Edith Ng’oma, a Zambian youth worker, about her experiences of how youth living in poverty cope with the extra pressure of HIV/AIDS on their lives. Below find Jeffrey and Edith’s bios to learn more about their backgrounds.

Edith Ng’oma has extensive experience working with marginalized youth from her days as a teacher, youth worker, and Regional Supervisor of street children programming in her home country of Zambia. Edith has also worked closely with Street Kids International for over five years. She is a lead facilitator in both our Street Health and Street Work programme streams. Edith has trained in countries as diverse as South Africa, Namibia, Bolivia and Nepal. She has broad experience with the impacts and implications of HIV/AIDS on youth and is currently pursuing her Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling in Carbondale, Illinois. At the same time, Edith is working as a Graduate Assistant at the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute (PSPPI), conducting health research and delivery educational presentations on ‘HIV/AIDS in Africa’ in the area high schools and the University.

Jeffrey Baikowitz is the President of Microban Canada and has extensive experience in start-up businesses. At the age of nineteen he launched his first business, Encore Waste Management, one of the largest recycling companies in Montreal. Jeffrey is a Quantum Shift Fellow, recognized by KPMG and the Richard Ivey School of Business in 2005 as one of Canada's top 40 entrepreneurs. In 2005 Jeffrey was selected to participate in Harvard Business School’s Social Enterprise Initiative seminar on Governing for Nonprofit Excellence and is the immediate past Chairman of Street Kids International and Director of Leave Out Violence (LOVE) in Montreal.
